Prickly pageant – the blooming of the cholla

Every May in the Sonoran Desert, the dastardly cholla cactus unfurl their hearty blossoms in hues of rust, gold and yellow. The super-prickly stalks of the cactus turn purple making it a stunning, hands-off display. Here are a few shots from my hike in the Coronado National Forest today, along with a shot of 11 cuddly frogs in granite-finish.
