Mom’s last trip to California

Before we left California, we met up with my parents and went to Muir Woods. My mother declared this their last trip to California and wants her ashes scattered among the redwoods. She first visited the place when she was pregnant with me in 1963.

I had a lot of fun playing with light and shadow in the dark beneath the majestic trees. A little light would come in and catch a plant or a flower in an ethereal way…

Next day, our friend Jean took us to the top of Mt. Tamalpais to see the fog roll in and the sun set. We sat spellbound on the rocks just watching the spectacular movement of clouds while the hills turned orange.

Jean shot the best portrait of the two of us that has been shot. Thank you Jean…

Here’s a rough cut of our visit to San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Mt. Tamalpais and the Amtrak ride down the coast…

Sebastian met up with a local political campaign that is running on a very special platform. We walked with them for several blocks just to hear what the passersby had to say about them being publicly naked. The most common statement was, “Only in San Francisco.” One guy walked up and dropped his pants for a photo…which they were very happy to pose for. Apparently the police won’t touch him because he’s a declared political candidate and to arrest him would cause quite a legal tangle so they just leave him alone. San Francisco seems to be getting back some of its more radical stripes that were long ago stripped bare by the dot.com invasion…

Notice Sebastian’s hands carefully placed in front, being careful not to touch the merchandise.
