Cascabel Thanksgiving

My romance with Cascabel, Arizona continued over Thanksgiving.

Here’s the table setting at Erik’s place. Probably the most spectacular Thanksgiving dinner view I’ve ever experienced. The Cascabelles put together a fantastic dinner with lots of locally grown food. I brought a pumpkin pie made by the staff of the Tucson Village Farm. They grew the pumpkins, rendered them and made the crust from scratch. It was the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had.

Next day we went for a hike into the slot canyons on the west bank of the San Pedro River. Pretty cool. James, Charlie, Chris and I sang Fauré’s Requiem in the canyons.

On the hike we saw a dessicated Chihuahua wearing a sweater. It was pretty macabre…especially since the body was basically intact and its sweater had a skull and crossbones on it. Creepy!

Saturday we met Fluffy and Cuddles the oxen who plowed the new community garden field. Imagine a 2,000 pound castrated bull named Fluffy. The cowboy (whose last name was Mayberry) was working the whip and yelling, “Fluffy, Cuddles gettup…Fluffy, Cuddles ho!” Pretty funny.
